Marshfield’s basketball teams swept visiting Marist Catholic in a pair of Sky-Em League games at the Pirate Palace, Coos Bay, Tuesday night. The Lady Pirates won 38-34, while the boys beat the Spartans 68-55. In the boys’ game, Mr. Inside, Luke Jackson, went outside and hit four threes to finish with 17-points, while Mr. Outside, Steel Carpenter, went inside and scored a game-high 28-pts. With win, Marshfield now leads the league with an 8-0 record, 17-2 overall. Marist Catholic is No. 2 with a 5-2 league record, 12-5 overall. Also, in league play last night, Cottage Grove beat visiting Junction City, 74-54. With four league games remaining, Marshfield is 8-0 in the conference, 17-2 overall. Marist Catholic is 5-2, 12-5, in third place is Cottage Grove, 3-4, 5-10, followed by Junction City, 2-5, 6-12 and North Bend, 0-7, 4-15. In the Girls Sky-Em Lg. – Marshfield’s win pushes the Lady Pirates to the top of the league with a 7-1 record, 12-7 overall. Morgan Ainsworth scored 9, Tatum Montiel 10 and Gwyn Button 13. Marist Catholic is 5-2, 11-6, followed by Junction City at 4-3, 11-7, North Bend 2-5, 11-7, and Cottage Grove, 0-7, 7-12. Last night in league play, Junction City won at Cottage Grove, 47-20. North Bend had the bye. Marshfield’s home game Friday with Newport has been cancelled as the Cubs try to make up a league postponed game this week due to snow.
