The man accused of shooting and killing another man in Southeast Portland on Friday offered an unusual line of defense before his arrest: He claimed that the gunshot victim died from an active overdose, not the two bullets lodged in his torso, court records say.
Jacob Ryan Clements, 45, later said he fired at the man “to deter the homeless,” prosecutors allege.
