Richard Eckman, 84, a Vietnam war veteran, on left, and his wife Laurie Eckman, also 84, hold signs at the Oct. 4 rally at Elizabeth Caruthers Park in South Portland before they marched to protest at the ICE facility a few blocks away.

Laurie Eckman said her husband grabbed his walker and Vietnam veteran cap and she hoisted a “No Kings” sign as they joined protesters last October at Elizabeth Caruthers Park and then marched to the federal immigration enforcement building in Portland.
