A police officer shot and wounded a man in Salem on Thursday morning, authorities said.
Officers responding to a 911 call arrived at a homeless encampment in the 3300 block of Portland Road NE at about 7:30 a.m. to find a man with a weapon, the Salem Police Department said in a statement. “A confrontation ensued,” resulting in an officer firing his gun at the man, according to the statement.
