On Saturday, July 18, 2026, at approximately 11:42 p.m., Officers from the Roseburg Police Department, along with fire and emergency medical personnel, responded to a report of a vehicle versus pedestrian collision on Diamond Lake Boulevard east of NE Pomona Street. Shortly before the collision, Law Enforcement had received reports of a female wearing dark clothing in the median of Diamond Lake Boulevard, waving her arms and reportedly jumping into traffic in front of passing vehicles. The preliminary investigation indicates that a white Jeep Cherokee, operated by Ryan Mays Jr., 19, was traveling westbound in the inside lane of Diamond Lake Boulevard when his vehicle struck the female. The female was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity is being withheld pending confirmation and notification of next of kin. Mays was not injured and is cooperating with the investigation. Based on the preliminary investigation, the incident does not appear to be criminal in nature. The investigation remains ongoing. The Roseburg Police Department was assisted by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, Oregon State Police, Roseburg Fire Department, and Umpqua Valley Ambulance.
