GILLIAM CO., Ore. - A Pasco semi driver was arrested September 24 after a crash that shut down an Oregon Interstate for more than eight hours.The crash happened just before 7 a.m. on I-84 outside of Boardman in Gilliam County.According to the Oregon State Police, Edwin Gomez, 32, of Pasco, was driving his semi eastbound near Arlington when it crossed over into the left lane and hit the median. The semi then went across the median and onto the westbound lanes. Gomez was hauling three short trailers behind his semi and when he crossed into the westbound lanes, a car being driven by a 51-year-old person from California hit one of the trailers and rolled.The semi and one trailer stayed on top of the center median. The other two trailers ended up on the westbound lanes, blocking the road and the on-ramp to I-84 westbound from Arlington. The vehicle that rolled ended up on the right shoulder behind the guardrail.The person from California and Gomez were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.Gomez's passenger in the semi, a 26-year-old Kennewick woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Her current condition is not yet known. The crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-84 were shut down for about eight hours, according to Oregon State Police. Authorities said hazardous material had to be removed as well as repairs made to the center median.Gomez was arrested on suspicion of DUI, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and assualt.
