Description

Forecasters with the National Weather Service are warning people across central and north-central Oregon to expect freezing rain this week.

The weather service says some areas could see up to one tenth of an inch of accumulated ice on roadways on Thursday night – especially for those in the Lower Columbia Basin, as well as the Kittitas and Yakima valleys.

Freezing rain can create hazardous conditions such as slick roads and walking surfaces. Officials warn drivers to take extra precautions when traveling and to slow down especially over bridges and overpasses where ice may be likely.

Meanwhile, across northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington, cold temperatures are expected again Tuesday night. Forecasters say temperatures will fall into the upper 20s to lower 30s across much of the Willamette Valley.

Possible widespread frost with some patches of dense fog may develop overnight.

Some organizations are opening their doors overnight Tuesday due to the cold weather. They include the Council for the Homeless in Clark County and Father’s Heart Street Ministry in Clackamas County.
