PacifiCorp successfully appealed a 2023 class action verdict that found it liable for four devastating wildfires in 2020, including the one that destroyed the town of Gates, pictured in this file photo. But the utility still faces potentially crippling liabilities from wildfires caused by its equipment, and had asked regulators for a temporary rate increase to shore up its financial position. Oregon utility regulators this week rejected PacifiCorp’s request to temporarily raise electricity rates to shore up its financial condition in the face of potentially crippling liabilities from ongoing litigation related to wildfires in 2020.
