Description
Our communities are feeling the impacts of the heavy rains and high winds. Power outages are common with winter weather. Take additional action now in case you lose power.
- Stock up on essentials: Have flashlights, batteries, portable chargers, and blankets ready.
- Keep extra supplies: If safe to do so, store a few days’ worth of food, water, medications, and other essentials.
During an outage:
- Reserve your cell phone battery for emergencies.
- Check on your friends and loved ones.
- Only call 911 for life safety emergencies.
- Keep freezers and refrigerators closed.
- Only use generators outdoors and away from windows.
- Do not use a gas stove to heat your home.
- Disconnect appliances and electronics to avoid damage from electrical surges.
- Use alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or power dependent medical devices.
- If safe, go to an alternate location for heating or cooling.
