OSU release - CORVALLIS, Ore. — AJ Newberry rushed for 105 yards and caught five passes for 120 more, including an 88-yard touchdown, to become the first Oregon State player with 100 yards rushing and receiving in the same game in 23 years, and the Beavers beat Washington State, 48-30, on Saturday at Reser Stadium.  Oregon State (5-2, 3-0 Pac-12) won its fifth straight game, its longest streak since a seven-game run that spanned the 2022 and 2023 seasons, and started Pac-12 play 3-0 for the first time since 2013. The Beavers have won four straight home meetings with the Cougars, the longest such streak in the series, in front of 39,257 fans, the largest crowd at Reser Stadium since its 2023 renovation.  Newberry is the first FBS player with a 100-yard rushing and 100-yard receiving game since Eastern Michigan's Dontae McMillan on Nov. 25, 2025, and the first Beaver since Steven Jackson had 128 and 116 at Fresno State on Sept. 5, 2003. He is also the first Oregon State running back with 100 receiving yards in a game since Terron Ward in 2013.  Newberry's 88-yard touchdown catch from Braden Atkinson in the second quarter was the ninth reception of 85 or more yards in school history and, along with a 90-yarder by Jesse Legree earlier in the game, marked the first time the Beavers have had two in the same game.  Atkinson completed 23 of 38 passes for 347 yards and three touchdowns without an interception. It was his seventh straight 300-yard game, tying Sean Mannion's school record from 2013, and the 15th of his career. His 24 touchdown passes this season rank sixth on Oregon State's single-season list, one behind Derek Anderson's 25 in 2002 and 2003.  Legree caught eight passes for 108 yards and two touchdowns, extending his own school record to seven straight 100-yard games. He is the first FBS player with seven in a row since South Alabama's Caullin Lacy in 2023.  Legree's 90-yard touchdown in the first quarter was the sixth reception of 90 or more yards in program history and the first since Anderson to Mike Hass in 2003. He now has 1,040 receiving yards and 14 touchdown catches, second in a season at Oregon State behind Brandin Cooks' 16 in 2013.  Both teams punted on their opening drives. Oregon State answered by scoring on three straight possessions in the first quarter. Jake Reichle finished an 11-play, 62-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, Atkinson hit Legree for the 90-yarder on the first play of the next drive, and Caleb Ojeda kicked a 48-yard field goal for a 17-0 lead.  Washington State got on the board with a 19-yard field goal, Ojeda answered from 46 yards, and Atkinson found Newberry on the 88-yard touchdown for a 27-3 lead. Owen Eshelman's 40-yard touchdown pass to Branden Ganashamoorthy with 1:53 left in the half cut it to 27-10 at the break.  Atkinson's 5-yard touchdown pass to Legree capped a seven-play, 66-yard drive in the third quarter, and Reichle's second 1-yard score, his fifth career rushing touchdown, finished a 13-play, 75-yard drive that took 7:35 off the clock and made it 41-16.  Cornell Hatcher Jr. rushed 10 times for 65 yards and closed the scoring with a 16-yard touchdown run with 1:16 left, after Eshelman's touchdown run had trimmed the lead to 41-30.  Takari Hickle was a force on defense, recording three tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks, both career highs.  Hickle has six sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss this season, and Oregon State had three sacks as a team to reach 18 this year, passing its 15-sack total from all of 2025.  Isaiah Houi led the defense with a career-high 16 tackles, 13 of them solo, and added two pass breakups. He also sealed the win with an interception of Eshelman with six seconds remaining, Oregon State's fifth straight game with a pick, tying its longest streak since 2022.  The Beavers totaled 555 yards, 347 through the air and 208 on the ground, and scored 40 or more points for the third straight game for the first time since 2021. Oregon State has scored 255 points over its last five games, a program record for any five-game stretch, and 279 over its last six.  Oregon State has an open date next week before traveling to Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. PT on USA Network.
