Oregon winery honors founder with rare vintage tasting

In 1971, Frank Wisnovsky, seen here, and his wife, Ann, purchased land in southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley with the goal of establishing a vineyard and winery. On July 19, 2026, Mark, left, and Michael Wisnovsky, owners of Valley View Winery, held a library tasting and poured estate vintage bottles to wine club members in the tasting room. Quinn Wisnovsky, one of Mark’s sons, represents the third generation of the family to work in the wine business. Valley View’s winemaker Mike Brunson explained nuances of turning grapes into wine at the July 19, 2026, tasting room event. Longtime Valley View Winery club member Chris Borovansky attended the library tasting and left with a bottle of Domaine Rogue 2022 Syrah, which won double gold and best of class at the 2026 Savor Southern Oregon festival. The bottle was signed by winemaker Mike Brunson. Vineyard dog Brock is a 150-pound English Mastiff/Bull Mastiff currently in 5th place in the national vineyard dog competition calendar. Voting ends Aug. 14. Cabernet sauvignon is the oldest of the vines at Valley View Winery, which also grows tempranillo, syrah, pinot noir and chardonnay. The 1978 Cabernet Sauvignon was the first vintage produced at the family’s winery. Since then, all Valley View wines have been made there. A 1979 Oregon Pinot Noir with A 1979 Cabernet Sauvignon was poured at Valley View Winery's library tasting on July 19, 2026. Michael Wisnovsky poured a Valley View Vineyard 1980 Oregon Chardonnay to celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of winery founder Frank Wisnovsky. People who attended the library tasting took home a bottle of Domaine Rogue 2022 Syrah, which won double gold and best of class at the 2026 Savor Southern Oregon festival. The bottle was signed by winemaker Mike Brunson. A selection of fresh fruit, chocolate, organic vegetables, Oregon-sourced artisan cured meats and cheeses and Pacific Northwest smoked salmon were served to complement the distinct profiles of the library cabernet sauvignon, pinot noir and chardonnay as well as newly released showcased wines. The Domaine Rogue 2021 Syrah was poured at Valley View Winery's library tasting on July 19, 2026. The Domaine Rogue 2022 Syrah, which won double gold and best of class at the 2026 Savor Southern Oregon festival, was tasted on July 19, 2026. Domaine Rogue 2023 Quartz Vein Pinot Noir was poured at Valley View Winery's library tasting on July 19, 2026. Domaine Rogue 2023 Gravel Lane Pinot Noir was poured at Valley View Winery's library tasting on July 19, 2026. The Domaine Rogue 2023 A 2024 Domaine Rogue Orange Viognier was poured at Valley View Winery's library tasting on July 19, 2026. Russell Chandler distributes glasses of the 2024 Domaine Rogue Orange Viognier. Valley View Winery held a library tasting with wine club members and others who paid $100 to attend the special event. Valley View Winery founder Frank Wisnovsky, who revived the name of Oregon’s first wine label, was celebrated in July on what would have been his 90th birthday. His sons, Mark and Michael Wisnovsky, second-generation owners of the vineyard property in southern Oregon’s Rogue Valley, honored their father by uncorking their earliest estate vintages.
