While President Donald Trump has urged his supporters to move on from the massive sex-trafficking scandal around disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, many of his most loyal supporters are refusing to do so. And they are aligned with an unlikely ally: Democratic U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden.

Before the latest uproar over Epstein erupted, Wyden was digging into the case from his perch on the U.S. Senate Finance Committee.

“The Trump administration may be closing the books on Epstein’s sex trafficking, but I am not ready to give up. Far from it,” the Oregon senator said in a statement earlier this week.

Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore. on Capitol Hill in Washington, March 14, 2025.

Trump made campaign promises to release FBI files related to Epstein. But he then seemingly reversed course after taking office, saying they wouldn’t be releasing further Epstein documents. Many of the president’s supporters have been pushing him to release documents, including a list of Epstein’s clients.

Wyden said several banks waited until Epstein’s arrest to flag suspicious transactions that could be related to criminal activity. Now, the senator is pushing to make Epstein-related financial documents public. Wyden disclosed many of his revelations in a New York Times article that details what his staffers found digging through confidential bank records.

Despite all the pressing issues currently facing Oregon, Wyden said this is a valuable undertaking.

“I’ve gotten questions about Epstein during my open-to-all town halls throughout Oregon this year as well as in other community settings around the state,” he said in an email statement. “It’s clear to me that Oregonians, just like with people all over the country, look at this case and question whether powerful people who do bad things are still going to be held to account in America, and I want to do what I can to make sure they are.”

After looking through the bank records, Wyden said his staff found:

  • More than 4,725 wire transfers adding up to more than $1 billion going in and out of one of Epstein’s bank accounts.
  • Evidence Epstein used multiple Russian banks to process payments related to sex trafficking. A lot of the women he targeted came from Russia, Belarus, Turkey and Turkmenistan, according to Wyden’s statement.

Wyden said he was also trying to hold Trump accountable to his campaign promise.

“In addition to always working to be responsive to Oregonians’ questions along with having zero tolerance for child sex trafficking, I also strive to hold presidents accountable,” Wyden said in a statement.

“And in this case, Donald Trump ran on a promise to expose the Epstein files. He obviously hasn’t done that, and my history is to work with anybody dedicated to resolving any and all serious issues just like transparency in government and enforcement of the law.“

Many of those calling for more insight into Epstein’s crimes and death in a New York jail have little political agreement with Wyden. That includes FBI director and former Fox News commentator Dan Bongino, who has clashed with Attorney General Pam Bondi over her efforts to walk back promises around the documents.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has denied Wyden’s claims. A spokesman for the U.S. Treasury Department told The Hill that there are no hidden financial records.

“The Biden administration had access to this information during its tenure. The fact that Senator Wyden never asked Joe Biden or [former attorney general] Merrick Garland to address this matter shows this is pathetic political theater and a complete joke,” the treasury statement said.
