Description

Pears grow on the branches of an orchard at The Gorge White House, a prominent stop on the Hood River Fruit Loop. The value of last year's pear crop has collapsed, with potentially disastrous consequences for local orchards, growers say.

Bins of Oregon pears that cost $300 to grow may fetch nothing on the market as farmers confront the consequences of a disastrous season, and Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek and Republican opponent Sen. Christine Drazan are ringing the alarm bells.
