CITY TREE AT HOLIDAY LIGHTS AT SHORE ACRES While visiting the Holiday Lights at Shore Acres State Park this year, be sure to admire the City’s tree representing the variety of employees and volunteers who work for the City of Coos Bay. The colorful decorations include fire trucks, police vehicles, calculators, construction equipment, building tools, library cards, and more. The City’s tree is directly in front of the Garden House, where it can be easily enjoyed by the 50,000+ visitors expected at this year’s event. Be sure to go in the Garden House for cookies and a steaming cup of apple cider or coffee while enjoying the holiday decorations. The annual Holiday Lights celebration is a beloved community tradition, made possible by the non-profit Friends of Shore Acres, which has grown to include over 325,00 holiday lights, 26 Christmas trees decorated by community groups, and animated and illuminated sculptures turning the historic gardens into a dazzling winter wonderland. See if you can find this year’s new sculptures; a pair of PNW legends! Holiday Lights at Shore Acres is open Thanksgiving thru New Year’s Eve from 4:30pm to 9pm every night, including Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. There is no charge for viewing the lights, but parking is $5 per vehicle or a current OPRD pass. Visitors must have a reserved timed entry (date and time) for vehicle parking at Shore Acres. Reservations can be made online at https://bit.ly/2024holidaylights or by calling 800-452-5687, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Reservations must be made prior to arrival; parking permits will not be sold onsite. The timed entry and parking ticket is per vehicle. Carpooling is encouraged so everyone has a chance to reserve. A free Santa’s Shuttle will run between the Charleston Marina and Shore Acres State Park on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, plus Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Eve. These wheelchair-accessible shuttles will depart from the marina every 20 minutes between 4:15 p.m. – 8 p.m. The shuttle will run on a first-come, first-served basis and does not require reservations. It is free of charge thanks to local sponsors, with help from First Student Buses.

SOUTHWESTERN UNCORKING OPPORTUNITY SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER ON JAN. 31 The Southwestern Oregon Community College Foundation in collaboration with the Oregon Coast Culinary Institute (OCCI) invites guests 21 years and older to attend Uncorking Opportunity! on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025. The event featuring fantastic food, fun and friends takes place from 6-8 p.m., at OCCI, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay. This is the Foundation’s annual scholarship fundraiser and biggest event of the year.
