Description

Oregon literacy advocates are calling on lawmakers to require the education department to send reading investments directly to elementary schools with the lowest proficiency rates. In this file photo, a middle school student received one-on-one reading tutoring in North Portland last summer.

For the third time in less than two years, reading advocates are calling on lawmakers to require the Oregon Department of Education to send the state’s literacy investments to elementary schools with the highest need, rather than letting districts decide how much schools get.
