Lawyers for the Oregon Council for the Humanities and 15 states urged a federal judge in Portland Monday to rescind the April termination of millions of dollars in grants from the National Endowment of Humanities and bar the government from dispersing the money elsewhere.

Lawyers for the Oregon Council for the Humanities and 15 states including Oregon urged a judge Monday to bar the federal government from diverting more than $200 million in state and local humanities grants to other uses.
