Description

A new study led by Oregon Health & Science University researchers found that more than half of people treated for burns in Oregon hospitals and emergency rooms over nearly a decade also used smokable drugs other than tobacco. Interviews with drug users pointed to the widespread use of high-heat butane torches, often sold for cooking.

Emergency doctors in Portland started noticing something unusual in recent years: more patients arriving with severe burns tied not to house fires or kitchen accidents, but to the way they smoke drugs.
