Description

Rep. Greg Smith, a longtime Republican lawmaker from eastern Oregon, was recently found by the state ethics commission to have broken ethics laws when he used his position to maneuver for raises as the executive director of an economic development agency. Now, that agency is considering awarding Smith a new contract worth $294,000 a year.

An eastern Oregon group charged with redeveloping a former military depot is considering rehiring an influential state lawmaker and giving him a large raise, despite state ethics watchdogs recently concluding he violated state laws when he inserted a $66,000 raise into a grant contract without his employer’s knowledge.
