Description
On Wednesday, September 24th, Lower Umpqua Hospital District conducted an Active Shooter Emergency Exercise in partnership with community agencies and volunteers. This full-scale drill tested our communication systems, coordination, and response procedures in a controlled, safe environment.
The exercise was preceded by multiple safety checks and concluded with an After-Action Review to evaluate outcomes and identify opportunities for improvement. The live action portion took place at Dunes Family Health Care at the end of the business day when no patients or visitors were present.
With workplace violence on the rise nationwide—and identified as one of the top threats facing our district—these exercises are essential. Lower Umpqua Hospital District conducts two exercises annually, with one full-scale event involving our community partners to strengthen preparedness and community safety.
We sincerely thank our community partners and volunteers for their participation and support in making this exercise a success. Thank you to the following organizations: Douglas County Sheriff's Department, Reedsport Certified Emergency Response Team (CERT), Reedsport, Fire Department, Reedsport Police Department, Douglas County Emergency Management, City of Reedsport, Douglas Public Health Network and Oregon Health Authority – Public Health Division.
