Oleksandr Svatok scored his second goal of the season in the fourth minute of stoppage time to help Austin FC beat the Portland Timbers 2-1 on Saturday night.
Facundo Torres also scored a goal and Brad Stuver had four saves for Austin (6-10-6), which is unbeaten in three straight following a three-game losing streak.
Svatok tapped in a putback for his second career MLS goal. Joseph Rosales played an in-breaking corner kick that was cleared by Finn Surman’s header. Besard Sabovic’s header from the top of the penalty box was blocked by Surman before Svatok’s first-touch finish from six yards out.
The Timbers (8-10-4) lost for just the second time in eight games since the World Cup break. Portland has 28 points, one behind Minnesota for the Western Conference’s final playoff spot.
Besard Sabovic tapped a short pass from just outside the penalty arc to the top of the 18-yard box, where Joseph Rosales — with his first touch — redirected it to Torres for a sliding one-timer from near the spot in the 25th minute.
Antony Alves Santos — known simply as “Antony” — converted a penalty (conceded by Svatok) in the 89th minute for the Timbers.
James Pantemis stopped one shot.
