The North Bend City Council will hold a regular session meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 7:00 pm in Council Chambers at 835 California Ave. The agenda will include the following:  -Ceremonial:  •Ceremonial Swearing-In of Patrol Officer, Benjamin Martin; -Consent Calendar; •Purchase of Training and Duty Ammunition for Police Firearms; •Approval of Temporary Janitorial Service Agreement for the North Bend Public Library; •Annual Service Agreement with Bibliotheca, LLC; -Resolution No. 3362 - Authorizing the City to Apply for a Local Government Grant from the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department; -Reappointment to the Coos Bay-North Bend Water Board; -Authorization to Hire HGE Architects for Professional Landscape Architectural Services.

Never Forget By: Captain Sean Sanborn Students of history can tell you that for major historical events there is one, or many focal points which are a catalyst for major events. On June 28, 1914 the Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was assassinated. This one event was a major catalyst event for World War I. On December 7, 1941 Pearl Harbor was attacked. An event which dragged the United States from a position of neutrality into an active role in World War II. September 11, 2001, four commercial air planes, American Air Flight 11, United Flight 175, American Air Flight 77 and United Flight 93, were hijacked by men with the intent to attack and wound this country in a horrid act of terror, an act they accomplished killing nearly 3000 American Citizens. September 11, 2001 led to many events and sadly, the deaths of many more American servicemen and women in the conflicts which occurred as a result. It was a horrific day; one I will never forget and in my opinion our country should never forget. It was a day which highlighted the bravery which hallmarks the fire and police services across the United States, but especially in New York and the Pentagon. Those Firemen and Police Officers rushed selflessly into burning buildings to save their fellow man, for many it was at the expense of their lives, for others, their health over the years. Following the events of September 11, our country was truly united. It was awe inspiring and wonderful to see the true spirit of this country rise above all the negativity and political vitriol we see all around us. The nation seemed to become one in a common goal to seek justice for the people who died that day. Enlistment into the armed forces grew exponentially, the country generally did what needed to be done as it was evident our way of life was under attack. Every day patriots stepped up. Todd Beamer and the men and women of Flight 93 fought against the evil who had taken over their airplane. We will blessedly never know how many lives they saved due to their actions which ultimately ended in a Pennsylvania field. Today, The Coos County Sheriff’s Office remembers and reflects. As we go throughout our day, let us not forget the everyday patriots like Todd Beamer. Let’s not forget the brave people of the New York Fire Department, New York Police department, Pentagon Police and Arlington Fire Department who ran into crumbling buildings at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Let’s not forget the 2996 souls who got on a plane or just went to work that day who died at the hands of cowards. Let’s not forget the servicemen and women who signed a blank check and gave their lives or were wounded on foreign soil to ensure our way of life following this event.
