Figures provided by Multnomah County show that 957 free preschool slots were unfilled as of Wednesday, about 13% of the 7,280 seats made available for the year. Meanwhile, 617 families were on waitlists.

Multnomah County will likely pay millions of dollars for empty Preschool for All seats over the next year while hundreds of families remain waitlisted for the tuition-free program, according to the county’s elected watchdog.
