Description
Officials with Multnomah County confirmed Tuesday that a man has died from hypothermia.
The man, who has not been identified, was found dead Sunday within Portland’s 97219 zip code. No other details have been released.
At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, the county said it will provide updates on any other suspected or confirmed hypothermia deaths during the ongoing severe weather.
Some deaths they noted could take several weeks or months to determine a final cause of death.
Multnomah County declared a state of emergency Tuesday and opened its severe weather shelters as snow is expected to fall overnight.
The move came after the National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for much of northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington, including the Portland/Vancouver metro area. The advisory will be in effect from midnight Tuesday to Wednesday at noon.
Anyone who needs information on where to find shelters or resources can call 211 or visit 211-info.org.
