Over the weekend, deputies arrested several drivers for DUII and reckless driving. Each of these cases could have ended tragically, as our deputies often see out on our roads.  Please drive safe this fall!  On October 3rd at about 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a reported hit and run crash on Wheeler Road, Pleasant Hill. A power pole and several mailboxes had been damaged when a vehicle veered off the road, struck them, then drove away. Witnesses reported the vehicle was driving down the road on its rims. Deputies located the vehicle nearby and identified the driver as Ronald Allen Sprague, 66, of Pleasant Hill. After additional investigation, Sprague was arrested for DUII, Reckless Driving, Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver – Property Damage, and Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree.  At about 8 p.m., a deputy observed a driver texting and driving poorly in the area of Franklin Boulevard and Agate Street, Eugene. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Sarah Elizabeth Sabado, 50, of Woodburn. The deputy observed signs Sabado was impaired. After additional investigation, Sabado was arrested for DUII.  On October 5th at about 1 a.m., deputies responded to a single-vehicle crash on Mosby Creek Road, east of Cottage Grove. Roadway evidence indicated the driver, Angus Waylon White, 21, had been driving recklessly prior to the crash, which injured a passenger. After additional investigation, White was arrested for Reckless Driving and Reckless Endangering.  At about 3 a.m., a driver passed a deputy on River Road near Maxwell Road, Eugene, at over 70 miles per hour. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and contacted the driver, Gunner Matthew Hendrix, 22, of Eugene. The deputy observed signs Hendrix was impaired. After additional investigation, Hendrix was arrested for DUII.  At about 9 p.m., a deputy located a possible impaired driver that had been reported to Oregon State Police. The deputy observed the vehicle was driving poorly and initiated a traffic stop in the area of S. Front Street and C Street, Creswell. The deputy observed signs the driver, Matthew Adam Swearingen, 42, of Creswell, was impaired. After additional investigation, Swearingen was arrested for DUII.  While a deputy was still on scene with Swearingen's vehicle, a car stopped nearby and the driver got out. The deputy observed the driver, McKenzie Kay Mazurek, 30, of Creswell, was impaired. After additional investigation, Mazurek was also arrested for DUII.  At about 11:30 p.m., a deputy observed a vehicle driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed on Game Farm Road, Springfield. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, however vehicle only slowed and continued driving. After driving down a dead end street, the vehicle stopped and the driver, Kyle Kenneth Egbert, 33, of Springfield, was arrested for Reckless Driving and Attempt to Elude by Vehicle.
