Meghan Moyer, left, and Shannon Singleton are leading candidates for Multnomah County's board of commissioners.

The Multnomah County Board of Commissioners appears likely to gain two political newcomers, according to preliminary election results tallied through Wednesday morning.

In District 1, which serves all of Multnomah County west of the Willamette River, as well as parts of Southeast Portland, both candidates lacked prior experience in elected office. Disability Rights Oregon public policy director Meghan Moyer was leading against administrative law judge Vadim Mozyrsky by 59% to 41% in votes reported by just after 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The victor will replace Sharon Meieran, who has to step down because of term limits.

In District 2, which serves North and Northeast Portland, former Portland Mayor Sam Adams was hoping to return to elected office, but instead appeared headed toward defeat against newcomer Shannon Singleton. The seat opened up when Susheela Jayapal stepped down last fall to run for U.S. Congress.

Singleton, a trained social worker and former interim director of the Joint Office of Homeless Services, was leading Adams 55%-45% as of Wednesday morning.
