Description
The Burdoin Fire, located on the Washington side of the Columbia River near White Salmon, is continuing to increase rapidly amid windy conditions in the area, prompting officials to expand the evacuation zone.
The fire started Friday afternoon and has burned more than 1,200 acres so far and is 0% contained. The cause of the fire is unknown.

Norma Brock, public information officer for the Southeast Washington Incident Management Team, said the fire is moving so rapidly that they’re unable to say how many structures are being threatened. But she said many houses and buildings lay in the fire’s path.
The fire is moving east toward Lyle, Washington, a small community of around 500 people, which is now being evacuated, Brock said.
She said people should stay out of the area, if possible, to give crews easier access. The Washington Department of Transportation said State Road 14 is closed in both directions from Bingen to Lyle.
Two Red Cross shelters are open at Columbia High School in White Salmon and in Oregon at The Dalles Middle School.
