On December 11th, 2025, Lyle Mattson received the lifetime achievement award from the Oregon State Sheriff's Association.

For more than three decades, Lyle has been a cornerstone of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) volunteer community, particularly in Search and Rescue (SAR) and the Sheriff’s Mounted Posse. His contributions have been both foundational and transformational, and his legacy is one of quiet leadership,
technical innovation, and unwavering service.

Lyle’s technical leadership has been instrumental in modernizing SAR operations. He transitioned the team from a paper-based system to digital platforms, initially using his personal computer to build mapping and GPS capabilities.

Lyle was also the driving force behind the acquisition and outfitting of LCSO’s first Mobile Command Trailer. He coordinated funding from the Posse, private donors, and a grant, then designed and maintained the trailer himself—often towing it to incidents with his own vehicle and storing it on his property.

Lyle's legacy is one of service, humility, and excellence and it will continue to inspire for generations to come.

Congratulations Lyle on a well deserved award.Photos from Lincoln County Sheriff's Office - Oregon's post Featured News by Lincoln County Sheriff
