Oregon has confirmed 13 cases so far this year, but state epidemiologist Dr. Dean Sidelinger said that number likely reflects “only the tip of the iceberg.” An undated photo from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows the skin of a patient after three days with measles rash.

Measles is spreading more widely in Oregon than official case counts show and health officials warned Friday that the state could be on the brink of a much larger outbreak.
