Lifeguards on the shore of the Sandy River pose as a group Friday, May 22, 2026. A longstanding program that places lifeguards at two popular Portland-area swimming spots returns this weekend.

Two popular parks for swimming near Portland will have lifeguards beginning this weekend, and the ambulance service running the program is encouraging people to plan their visits around the guards’ availability.
