** Drug Lab Investigation ** Through the South Coast Interagency Narcotics Team’s (SCINT) investigation into an illegal marijuana organization starting in November 2024, SCINT identified Matthew Houglum (50) as a suspect. SCINT identified Matthew’s address to be 50280 Highway 101, Bandon, located within Coos County Oregon. On December 9th, 2024, SCINT Detective B. Davis applied for and was granted a search warrant for Matthew’s residence. On December 11th, 2024, a multi-jurisdictional operation including: SCINT, Oregon State Police, Coos County ERT, Bandon Police, Coquille Police, North Bend Police, Coquille Tribal Police, Coos County Parole and Probation, and the U.S Coast Guard drone unit executed the search warrant. Matthew and other co-conspirators were found to have an illegal psilocybin mushroom lab, marijuana processing center, and an arsenal of firearms. Detectives seized over two thousand mushrooms containing suspected amounts of psilocybin, forty-nine firearms including short barreled rifles and shotguns many of which are suspected to be obtained illegally, various grenades, and marijuana processing equipment. The FBI and ATF are being briefed on this illegal psilocybin lab. Under the Controlled Substance act, psilocybin is a schedule 1 substance, which also includes heroin, meth and LSD. Charges for this case are pending, as it is an ongoing investigation.

** Deputies Honored at OSSA Conference ** On 12/12/2024, Coos County Sheriff’s Office had three Deputies honored at this year’s Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association (OSSA) Conference in Bend Oregon. Sergeant Adam Slater, Deputy Shawn Starr & Deputy Hannah Francis were honored with the Distinguished Service Award for their actions in December of 2023 which resulted in saving a child. ** Disorderly Conduct Arrest ** On December 10, 2024 and around 2:46-PM, North Coos dispatch received a call of a female trying to get onto two boats in the Charleston Marina and Deputy Z. Smith was notified of the call. Shortly after, an additional caller reported the same female was now walking in the middle of the roadway on the Charleston Bridge. Deputy Z. Smith and Deputy Freerksen located the female on Cape Vera Highway near Libby Lane. The female was identified as Angela Osborn (46), whom was on active probation. While Angela was speaking with Deputies, she was exhibiting signs consistent with intoxication and the probation officer was informed of the situation. Upon further investigation, Angela was subsequently taken into custody on an authorized detainer for a probation violation. Angela was transported to Coos County jail, where she was booked.
