Kidnap Victim Located, Suspect Arrested, Lane Co.

On August 2nd at about 5:30 a.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a kidnapping in the 24800 block of McCutcheon Road, Veneta. Deputies learned Kristian Anthony Villa, 48, of Veneta, assaulted a person known to him, forced them into his vehicle, and left the location. Deputies quickly located the involved vehicle on Territorial Road and initiated a traffic stop. The victim was still in the vehicle along with Villa, who was detained. After additional investigation, Villa was arrested lodged at the Lane County Jail on the following charges: - Kidnapping in the 1st Degree; - Assault in the 4th Degree; - Menacing; - Coercion.

Arson Charges, Lane Co.

On August 1st at about 2 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence in the 88100 block of 5th Street, Veneta, for a fire in a backyard. Arriving fire personnel advised the fire was clearly intentional, as gasoline had been poured inside the house and the fire started in a pile of debris outside. A witness observed the suspect, Shara Maria Brittain, 29, of Veneta, run from the scene. Deputies assigned to the Veneta patrol contract quickly located and detained Brittain at an area business. After additional investigation, Brittain was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for Arson in the 1st Degree. Thanks to Lane Fire Authority for their assistance on this case. While the above call was still being investigated, at about 2:30 p.m., deputies also responded to a report of a female attempting to light a field on fire in the 39100 block of Camp Creek Road, Springfield. A witness observed the suspect, Samantha Dawn Weekly, 34, of Eugene, lighting grass on fire. She left when confronted by a witness, who then extinguished the fire. Deputies quickly located and detained Weekly nearby. After additional investigation, she was arrested and lodged at the Lane County Jail for Arson in the 1st Degree.

ATV Fatal, Crow Rd., Lane Co.

On August 1st at about 4:30 p.m., Lane County Sheriff’s deputies responded along with Oregon State Troopers and fire personnel to a vehicle that crashed into a pedestrian in the 26300 block of Crow Road, southeast of Veneta. Initial investigation showed a 2010 Subaru Impreza struck an ATV that was crossing Crow Road. The operator of the ATV died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the Subaru remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation. Crow Road remained closed for about 3 hours during the investigation by the Lane County Sheriff’s Crash Reconstruction Team. The deceased was identified as Scott Alan Kayser, 63, of Eugene. Thanks to Oregon State Police, Lane Fire Authority, and Lane County TIP (Trauma Intervention Program) for their assistance with this incident.
