Prosecutors are accusing a 25-year-old man of strangling and killing his mother in her home in La Pine on Monday, court records show.
Gavaughn Bates, also of La Pine, faces allegations of second-degree murder, two counts of strangulation and unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly killing his mother, 56-year-old ErmaJean McGillicuddy, court records state. Officials haven’t released an official cause of death for McGillicuddy, but court records say that Bates strangled her and tried to use a knife during the alleged killing.
