Gov. Tina Kotek greets at student on the playground at McKinley Elementary School in Salem in 2025. Kotek is one of a handful of Democratic governors who have opted out of the Trump administration's new education tax credit initiative, which takes effect in 2027.

Oregon will forgo participation in a federal program that offers taxpayers a tax credit up to $1,700 for donations to organizations that provide scholarships for K-12 school tuition, tutoring and other educational expenses, Gov. Tina Kotek confirmed to The Oregonian/OregonLive this week.
