Description
So, what exactly is a King Tide? It’s the term used for the highest tides of the year, when the sun, moon, and earth align in a way that creates an extra gravitational pull on our oceans.
These tides can look a little different each year. Sometimes they’re subtle, and other times they bring powerful waves, coastal erosion, and flooding, especially when winter storms and heavy rain join the mix.
If you’re heading out to watch, please give the ocean plenty of space. King Tides are beautiful to witness, but the water is incredibly powerful and can move much faster than you might expect.
A few reminders before you head out:
• Check the Oregon tide tables and plan your visit around the tides.
• Keep a safe distance from the water and never turn your back on the ocean.
• Stay off rocks and driftwood.
• Respect all road and beach closures.
