A jury decided on Tuesday that the Oregon Department of Human Services was negligent in failing to protect a teen from sexual abuse, after it closed several tips to the state's hotline that alleged her mother's boyfriend posed a danger to her.

A Multnomah County jury on Tuesday awarded a 16-year-old girl more than $1.3 million after it found that the state’s Department of Human Services was negligent in preventing her from being sexually abused.
