The U.S. Justice Department is seeking documents and Portland police body camera footage stemming from the Oct. 2, 2025, police arrest of Nick Sortor, during a protest outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Portland. The district attorney's office later dropped the charge.

A federal judge grilled a U.S. Justice Department lawyer repeatedly Tuesday about the “suspicious” timing of the government’s request for information about police enforcement during immigration protests in Portland following a conservative influencer’s call to U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and her assistant after his arrest.
