Description

Construction of the nearly $1.5 billion transmission line – which starts in Boardman and ends near Melba, Idaho – began last year after nearly two decades of planning. It has been widely viewed as a key component of Oregon’s renewable energy ambitions, helping to move wind and hydropower across the region. The project is designed to accommodate growing electricity demand in eastern Oregon and southern Idaho.

A federal judge Thursday denied a request by Malheur Mining Co. to temporarily block construction of Idaho Power Co.’s 293-mile, high-voltage transmission line that’s slated to carry electricity from Boardman through five Oregon counties to Idaho’s Owyhee County.
