Coos County total payroll employment declined by 450 jobs in July, mostly due to seasonal losses in local government education jobs, down by 490. Modest employment gains were estimated in construction (+30); leisure and hospitality (+30); wood product manufacturing (+20); and financial activities (+20). Private education and health services employment fell by 40 jobs in July, the only published sector with notable job loss over the month. Since July 2024, Coos County payroll employment fell by 430 jobs, a decline of 1.9%. Employment gains occurred in wood product manufacturing (+50) and other services (+30). Professional and business services (-150); retail trade (-100); private education and health services (-70); transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40); and leisure and hospitality (30) lost jobs over the year. Government employment was little changed with losses in local government excluding education and tribal (-80) offset by gains in Indian tribal (+70) and local government education (+10). Curry County payroll employment decreased by 30 jobs in July. Leisure and hospitality employment rose by 60 jobs. Government employment fell by 110, all in local government education. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment climbed by 140 jobs for an increase of 2.1%. Losses were estimated in leisure and hospitality (-30); and professional and business services (-10). However, the county saw employment rise in private education and health services (+70), and manufacturing (+50).
