Neighbors said Portland police had ordered the people inside this house on Southeast 124th Avenue to come out Monday, May 6, 2024. Police said they were searching a warrant in the neighborhood when 45-year-old Richard Perez on the property shot at them. They shot back and killed him, police said.

Portland police and the man they killed May 6 traded at least 40 bullets in the Hazelwood neighborhood, according to newly released grand jury transcripts that include additional details about what led police to fatally shoot 45-year-old Richard Shawn Perez.
