HOW TO USE THE CITY OF COOS BAY'S GIS MAP TO LEARN ABOUT YOUR PROPERTY

Want to know your property’s zoning? Curious where flood zones, utility lines, or public easements are? The City of Coos Bay’s GIS (Geographic Information System) Map is a powerful online tool that puts this information at your fingertips—no special software needed.
What You Can Find Using the GIS Map:
•Zoning designations (e.g., Residential, Commercial, Industrial)
•Approximate parcel boundaries and property lines
•Flood hazard zones (FEMA data) and Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan units
•Property addresses, tax lot numbers, and ownership information
•Public infrastructure (streets, sanitary sewer lines, storm water lines, etc.)
•City recreational facilities (e.g. parks, boat ramps, hiking trails)
•Environmental constraints (wetlands, steep slopes)
•Economic incentive areas (urban renewal districts, multiple unit property tax exemption areas, enterprise and opportunity zones, etc.)

How to Access the GIS Map:
1.Visit the City of Coos Bay website: www.coosbayor.gov
2.Navigate to Services > Maps
3.Click on the Interactive “City Maps” GIS Viewer link
Tip: It works best on a desktop or tablet browser.

How to Use It:
1.Search by address or tax lot number using the search bar in the upper left-hand corner
2.Zoom and pan to explore areas of interest
3.Click on any parcel to view property details like size and Assessor information
4.Use the layer controls on the left-hand side to open the dropdown menus and toggle visibility for things like aerial imagery, zoning, floodplains, and utilities

Why It’s Useful:
•Property owners can verify zoning to confirm what’s allowed on their lot
•Contractors can plan projects around zoning and site limitations
•Buyers can research site development-potential before making an offer
•Citizens can get informed before public hearings or land use decisions

Need Help? If you’re unsure what the map is showing, don’t guess—reach out! The City’s Public Works and Community Development staff can help interpret the data and explain how it applies to your situation. Give us a call 541-269-8918 or stop by during business hours for help navigating the GIS Map system.
