Get ready for a hootenanny the extraordinary Red Yarn! The musician and puppeteer Red Yarn will perform throughout the South Coast this July as part of the Coos County Library District’s Summer Reading initiative. All performances are free and open to the public. Performances will occur: 6:00pm, Tuesday, July 22, Mingus Park Amphitheatre, 725 N. 5th, Coos Bay (In the event of rain, the performance will be in the Myrtlewood Room at the Coos Bay Public Library); 10:30 am, Wednesday, July 23, Sprague Theatre, 1202 11th St SW, Bandon; 2:00pm, Wednesday, July 23, Lakeside Public Library, 915 N. Lake Road, Lakeside. Red Yarn (aka Andy Furgeson) is a Texas-born, Oregon-based family performer who weaves folksongs and puppetry into high-energy shows for all ages. With his engaging performances, lush folk-rock recordings, and playful music videos, this red-bearded bard reinvigorates American folklore for younger generations. Red Yarn’s performances are made possible by the Coos County Library Service District and are being offered to support out-of-school learning for young people during the summer as part of a nationwide Summer Reading Program. The annual initiative is offered to encourage young people and families to read during the summer months. Libraries throughout Coos County coordinate a challenge and programming tailored to local community needs. For more information on Summer Reading activities or the reading challenges, visit any public library in Coos County in person or on their websites.
