Seven candidates vied for four seats on the board which oversees the fourth largest school district in Oregon.

Incumbent Board Chair Karen Pérez-Da Silva was reelected.

Voters appeared to have narrowly approved Portland Public Schools’ proposed $1.83 billion bond to rebuild or modernize three high schools and carry out seismic retrofits and other upgrades at its aging middle and elementary schools.

The bond would pay for renovations, a school building replacement and other maintenance across the 11,000-student district.

It would be the seventh time in a row that voters have rejected a bond request from the Gresham college.

The bond would have paid for a variety of maintenance needs, classroom renovations and seismic upgrades at the Gladstone School District’s four schools.

Early literacy advocate Rashelle Chase-Miller appeared to have captured a seat on the Portland Public Schools board Tuesday, defeating incumbent Herman Greene.

Christy Splitt, a government affairs coordinator and sitting member of the Portland Public Schools board, kept her seat Tuesday.

Juvenile defense attorney Stephanie Engelsman defeated two challengers to win a seat on the Portland Public Schools board representing Zone 6.

Selena Jacobo, 26, was charged last month with first-degree burglary, aggravated theft and criminal mischief.

Election offices began announcing results at 8 p.m. Follow live updates here.
