Residents of Harney County are still cleaning up after heavy rains led to widespread flooding in the area.

Now the National Weather Service has extended a flood warning in the area indefinitely, due to heavy snowmelt.

Forecasters say the Silvies River, near Burns, Oregon, will remain at or near flood stage through early next week.

Officials are reminding drivers not to go around barricades or drive through flooded areas.

Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek declared an emergency due to the flooding in Harney County late last month. Last week, she toured the area to see the damage, and she announced funding to help with the cleanup.

The governor said she plans to ask the federal government for assistance. She also said rural Oregonians can expect the state’s lawmakers to overcome politics and work together to help with the recovery effort.
