Description

A child practices writing with Albina Head Start, a program providing free early childhood education to Portland's low income families. The program is one of several around the state that was due to receive funding from the federal government in November. That funding is imperiled by the government shutdown.

At least four Oregon Head Start programs are at risk of having to close classrooms serving more than 1,000 children and lay off staff if the federal government shutdown drags on into 2026.
