Good in the Hood celebrates unity with a parade and festival in Portland

Cheerleaders performed in the parade. The Good in the Hood parade marched down N.E. Martin Luther King Boulevard on Saturday, June 28, 2025. A child watches drummers perform at the parade. A motorcycle squad rode in the parade down Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. S.E.I. stands for Self Enhancement Inc. It is a nonprofit in North Portland that aims to empower young, marginalized people. Good in the Hood is a non-profit aimed to unite community and provide college scholarships. The Good in the Hood parade marched down N.E. Martin Luther King Boulevard on Saturday, June 28, 2025. The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge is a fraternity that marched in the Good in the Hood parade. Portland Rose Festival princess, Ava Rathi, and Rose Festival President, Jeremy Emerson rode in the parade. The parade led to a festival at Lillis-Albina Park. The Good in the Hood festival occurred at Lillis-Albina Park on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Many Black-owned businesses sold their products at the festival. There were a wide variety of food vendors at the park. Festival attendees set up their chairs to enjoy live music that afternoon. Children play on the play structure at Lillis-Albina Park. Friends enjoy the Good in the Hood festival at Lillis-Albina on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Trauma Nurses Talk Tough is a Legacy Health program that offered helmet fittings and sale at the festival. A child runs through the festival on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

For the second weekend in a row, people were celebrating by marching in Portland. On Saturday, it was part of the Good in the Hood festival. Though unconnected, it follows the Juneteenth Oregon parade route from last weekend.
