Press Release 12-29-25

On Saturday December 27, 2025 at about12:07pm, Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call regarding a white Dodge Ram pulling a Cargo trailer that was off the side of Airport Road, Sixes area north of Port Orford, and the engine had been running for over an hour and a half. Dispatch notified the Sixes River Fire Department and a volunteer, Ashley Moore, of that fire department arrived on scene first and then called 911 to report that there were two subjects in the vehicle and were unresponsive. Cal Ore Life Flight Ambulance were paged while Moore started providing CPR to the male driver after she was able to get him out of the truck and onto the ground. Moore saw that the female passenger, later identified as fifty-year-old Sandra Lewis, was gasping for air so Moore and a couple people driving by helped get Lewis out of the truck and into a recovery position. Moore then continued providing CPR to the male driver, later identified as forty-seven-year-old Anthony Carlson. Cal Ore Life Flight arrived shortly after that and took over CPR. Carlson was pronounced deceased at 12:55pm. Lewis was transported to Southern Coos Hospital in Bandon and then was transferred to River Bend Hospital in Springfield. We were told today that Lewis is in stable condition.

Upon a visual search of Carlson’s truck, drug items were seized by CCSO and later tested. Some items tested positive for methamphetamine, and one item tested positive for fentanyl.

The Curry County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank all those who responded from the Sixes River Fire Department, Cal Ore Life Flight, Bay Cities Ambulance, Oregon State Police and Port Orford Police. It is so unfortunate that a life was lost. Our condolences to the family. All information was provided to the Curry County District Attorney. The next of KIN was notified and the Curry County Sheriff’s Office is continuing the investigation.
