Description

The purpose of the Corvallis' city charter is to combat corruption through cronyism and patronage but its language “sweeps too broadly,” prohibiting a municipal councilor’s basic speech, U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken ruled.

The city of Corvallis violated a city councilor’s free speech by moving to expel her from the council because she urged the city manager to fill a climate program specialist’s job, a federal judge ruled Friday.
