DREW FARMER HONORED FOR NUMEROUS CONTRIBUTIONS This week the Coos Bay City Council formally recognized the service of Councilor Drew Farmer during the October 1, 2024, Council meeting. Councilor Farmer was elected to City Council in November of 2016. Drew has a long-standing history of service, starting with the US Navy and more recently in his many roles with service organizations in the community such as Bay Area Enterprises and Oregon Coast Community Action. Drew’s keen interest in supporting Coos Bay in his role as a Councilor can be seen in his steadfast advocacy with the State for mental health and housing supports. He is well read and maintained awareness of challenges impacting our community. He advocated for equal access to funding across the state, as is readily and consistently made available in urban areas of the State, as well as encouraging the State to identify surplus property within every city’s UGB that might be best used for housing development. His ability to grasp complex issues, such as the Coos Bay Estuary Management Plan Update, demonstrates his commitment to his role as an elected official. Drew’s diligence and service to Coos Bay is commendable. He looks to elevate his service to the next level in the coming election and further support initiatives that make Coos Bay and the surrounding area a great place to call home. -Joe Benetti, Mayor of Coos Bay
