Oregon Employment Dept. release - South Coast Payroll Employment Showed Little Change Over the Year - Coos County total payroll employment rose by 290 jobs in May. Private-sector gains were estimated in leisure and hospitality (+40); manufacturing (+20); and transportation, warehousing, and utilities (+20). Professional and business services was the only industry that lost jobs in May, down by 20. Government employment increased by 180 over the month, mostly due to a seasonally typical increase in local government education (+160). Since May 2024, Coos County payroll employment was flat. Employment gains occurred in manufacturing (+70); professional and business services (+50); and leisure and hospitality (+40). Transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-70); construction (-50); and retail trade (40) lost jobs over the year. Government employment was down by 20 jobs with losses in local government excluding education and tribal (-80) somewhat offset by gains in Indian tribal (+40) and state government (+20). Curry County payroll employment rose by 110 jobs in May. Leisure and hospitality employment rose by 60 jobs. Trade, transportation, and utilities added 20 jobs over the month. Government employment increased by 20, all in federal government. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment was little changed, up by 20 jobs for an increase of 0.3%. Losses were estimated in financial activities (-40); trade, transportation, and utilities (-40); and professional and business services (-20). However, the county saw employment rise in private education and health services (+50), and manufacturing (+30).
