South Coast Payroll Employment Shows Small Decline Over the Year - Coos County total payroll employment fell by 470 jobs in July, mostly due to a seasonally expected decrease of 470 jobs in local government education. Other industries with estimated job changes were construction (+20), and professional and business services (+20). Industries that showed losses included transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40), and private education and health services (-20). Since July 2025 Coos County payroll employment fell by 450 jobs for a loss of 2.0%. Jobs were lost in manufacturing (-150); professional and business services (-120); leisure and hospitality (-120); retail trade (-80); and construction (-70). Industries adding jobs over the year were private education and health services (+100) and financial activities (+10). Government added 40 jobs over the year, mostly due to a gain of 110 jobs in Indian tribal local government. Federal government fell by 20 jobs since July 2025. Curry County payroll employment fell by 30 jobs in July. Local government education employment decreased by 120 jobs. In private-sector industries, the only notable change was a gain of 60 jobs in leisure and hospitality. Other published industries showed little or no estimated employment change in July. Over the past year Curry County payrolls slipped slightly, down by 20 jobs to an estimated 6,670 jobs in July. Job losses were estimated in construction (-30); leisure and hospitality (30); and local government education (-20). On the positive side, jobs were added in professional and business services (+20); retail trade (+20); and local government excluding educational services (+20).

Curry Co. - Civilian Labor Force: July 2026: 8,450; June 2026: 8,463; July 2025: 8,500. Unemployed: July 2026: 499; June 2026: 532; July 2025: 582. Unemployment rate: July 2026: 5.9% (SA 6.2%); June 2026: 6.3% (SA 6.3%); July 2025: 6.8% (SA 6.8%).
